Right after his fourth birthday, Lhamo and Kyitsang started their journey to Lhasa. Over 50 people escorted him to Lhasa. Lhamo got to ride in a cart with his mom carried by two mules. As soon as they got out of the area controlled by Ma Pu-Feng, they called him the Dalai Lama. When they got to Lhasa, they took him to the summer home of the Dalai Lamas before him. The Dalai Lama was not allowed to eat eggs or pork. In 1940 he was taken from his summer palace to Polota Palace where he would be ceremonially enthroned.
