One day when he was spying on his attendants in his free time, he saw one of his attendants with a telegram saying China had invaded eastern Tibet. In October 1950, China planned to send 80,000 soldiers to Tibet. Soon after they made the Dalai Lama the political leader of Tibet, even though he was only 15. They were supposed to wait until he was 18, but the Tibetan people wanted him to start now.

    On December 20, 1950, he moved to Yatang, India because China was ready to attack Lhasa. Tibet sent a letter to the United Nations asking for help. But the United Nations wouldn’t help because they didn’t want to fight against China’s army. Plus, Tibet wasn’t part of the United Nations.  Soon after the Dalai Lama went back to Lhasa to talk with the Chinese general. He and the Dalai Lama worked out an agreement and China stopped their attack.  It took the Dalai Lama over ten years to stop China
